We believe that the Potomac Yard Arena plan is a significant departure from the original, and updated 2017, vision of the Potomac Yard development plan.

Traffic & Infrastructure
Transportation issues are likely insurmountable. Route 1 & GW Parkway will be nearly undriveable during event days, harming residents & businesses. We cannot force everyone to take Metro.
Financial Liabilities
Economic research shows that public financing for sports arenas does not provide net economic benefit to their communities.
Public Subsidies
All tax revenues are taxpayer monies. Every dollar of tax revenue diverted to the arena is a dollar not spent on other critical public needs. We should demand economic development that doesn’t heavily subsidize a billionaire.
Community Input & Buy-in
The City should do real public engagement with citizens and be transparent about the feedback they are receiving. They should only move forward if there is buy-in from most Alexandria residents.
Environmental Impact
The City has not presented any environmental impact studies related to flooding, wetlands, soil stability, or other key issues that need to be evaluated before moving forward with this project.
Affordable Housing
Longtime residents pushed out of affordable housing. Development should serve all our city’s residents, not just corporations.
