Virginia state senators cast doubt on passage of Alexandria arena legislation
State Sen. Louise Lucas, D-Portsmouth, the chair of the Senate Finance Committee, pulled the bill from the committee’s Monday docket saying it “is not ready for prime time.” When asked on Monday if the arena legislation is dead, Lucas said: “As far as I am concerned, it is,” according to the Associated Press.
Lucas and Senate Majority Leader Scott Surovell, D-Mount Vernon, said Monday morning they believe Youngkin has made mistakes in trying to advance the deal through the Democrat-controlled General Assembly, the AP said.
Additionally, Surovell — who sponsored the Senate bill — said there are doubts Youngkin is willing to play ball with Democrats on their priorities for this session, including the establishment of a recreational marijuana market and an increase to the minimum wage, according to the report.
