About Us

The Coalition to Stop the Arena at Potomac Yard is a grassroots organization that advocates on behalf of the thousands of Alexandria and Arlington, Virginia residents who would be directly impacted by the arena, the Virginians who will be negatively affected by an investment of this scale by the Commonwealth, and a bipartisan group of national advocacy groups, all of whom oppose the proposed arena deal.

Who We Are

The Coalition to Stop the Arena at Potomac Yard started as a few neighbors texting each other on the evening of December 12, 2023. We quickly grew overnight and decided to make a formal coalition to stop the arena.

We are your friends. We are your neighbors. We are local business people. We are sports fans. We are volunteers dedicating our time to help preserve the future of our city.

We believe the Potomac Yard Arena is a significant departure from the vision for the North Potomac Yard Area Plan and will have several unintended negative consequences for the City of Alexandria, Arlington, and the Commonwealth of Virginia.

The Coalition to Stop the Arena at Potomac Yard is a 501 (c) (4) organization of citizen volunteers who have dedicated their time, energy, and resources to Stop the Potomac Yard arena.

Our volunteers are from Northern Virginia as this is a Virginia issue, not just Alexandria. We fundraise and accept donations to be used for website management, graphic design, printing costs, event permits, FOIA requests, and various items that arise.
