Senate Dems hit pause on arena plan after Youngkin ‘mock’ speech
The Senate Finance and Appropriations Committee has left legislation for the project proposed in Alexandria off the docket for its meeting on Monday — its last before Tuesday’s procedural halfway point of the General Assembly session.
Senate Majority Leader Scott Surovell, D-Fairfax, who proposed Senate Bill 718 to allow creation of a Sports and Entertainment Authority to issue bonds for the proposed development, confirmed Sunday that the committee will not consider the legislation before “crossover” on Tuesday night. That is the deadline for both chambers to act on all of their bills except the budget. (Surviving bills then cross over to the other chamber for consideration ahead of the legislature’s scheduled March 9 adjournment.)
